This distinguished gentleman is Dwayne. Dwayne is a 13-year-old, Terrier/Hound mix dog that has been at our shelter over seven years awaiting his Forever Home. We know Dwayne has a sad history with humans because of his cautious and fearful reaction to new people. We feel certain he was abused physically, as he cowers upon approach by even those with whom he is familiar, until he recognizes a kind voice and familiar scent. Dwayne is also fearful of loud noises and thunder. Having personally worked with Dwayne, once he knows an individual, he is warm, caring and thrilled to say hello to those he counts as friends. Dwayne is ok with other dogs, simply does not have much interest in them and just wants to be on his own way. He is great with people he knows and walks well on a leash. Because he has been at our shelter for so long, Dwayne has not been exposed to many everyday objects that most pet dogs recognize. He is good riding in a vehicle, walks great in the park and is somewhat confident of new things if he is with a strong person that will assure him everything is OK. Dwayne is best suited for a home without other dogs or pets, a quiet place with adults and/or older mature children. Once you know Dwayne, his sweet personality blooms and he shows his true confident and very loving self. Dwayne deserves a nice warm home and loving family in his senior years.
